Students who missed GSAT exams to get a second chance

The Education Ministry wants the over 1,000 students who were absent from this year’s sitting of the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT), to be given an opportunity to continue their education.

Education Minister Ronald Thwaites says the government will find out why the students missed the exams. 

However, he says the main priority of the education ministry is to place the students in appropriate schools.

Thwaites also says the ministry is readying itself to handle cases where parents feel students have been wrongly placed.

Of the nearly 39,000 students who were registered to sit this year’s GSAT exams, 1,087 students were absent.

This is close to 300 less than the 1,418 absences at last year's sitting of the exam.

Results for the GSAT are to be released this afternoon in Primary and Prep Schools across the country.
