Number portability - Almost two weeks in, Digicel and Lime pleased
Almost two weeks after number portability came into effect, telecommunications networks Digicel and Lime say they are pleased with the amount of new customers porting to their networks.
Number portability was introduced by the ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining and allows Jamaicans to move from one telecoms provider without changing their phone numbers.
LIME’S Vice-President of legal and regulatory affairs, Rochelle Cameron, says although LIME has not generated specific data on the numbers, the company is pleased with the inflow of new customers so far.
Digicel’s Chief Operating Officer Sean Latty says they are getting positive feedback from their number portability data.
Digicel says 2,533 customers have switched to Digicel while 1,744 have left.
Digicel also says hundreds of consumers in the business community have been switching to its network.
