The annual Emancipation and Independence celebrations are set to get underway tomorrow with church services across the island.

Culture Minister Lisa Hanna says the thanksgiving services will formally begin a week of celebrations under the theme: Proud and Free! Jamaica 53.

The National Thanksgiving Service is scheduled to take place at the St. Jago De LA Vega Cathedral, in Spanish Town, St Catherine starting at 10 o’clock.

Addressing a Jamaica Information Service Think Thank yesterday, Hanna said a number of activities have been planned for this year that will get people interested in Jamaica’s history and independence.
