Mayor seeks to clarify 'exaggerated' comments over St Thomas conditions

The Mayor of Morant Bay in St Thomas, Ludlow Mathison, is seeking to clarify comments attributed to him claiming that the Governor General exaggerated when he said the parish of St Thomas was unattractive.
According to Mathison, his comments were directed at the Jamaica Labour Party caretaker for St Thomas Eastern, Delano Seiveright.
Yesterday, The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre reported that the Mayor made the comment in reference to Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.
During a meeting with parish representatives at King's House on Wednesday, Sir Patrick said he was disheartened by the state of the parish and highlighted the road conditions.
However, Mathison says he could not have been referencing the comments from the Governor General as he agrees that the roads in the parish are in a bad state.

In recent months, Seiveright has been highlighting conditions in the parish, claiming that the authorities have been neglecting the development of St Thomas.
However, the Morant Bay mayor says the JLP is seeking to discredit the efforts made to improve the parish, for political benefit.
Mathison says he has been making representation to have the roads in the parish fixed.
