16 of 19 early childhood institutions reopen after Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak forced closure

The Early Childhood Commission is reporting that 16 of the 19 Early Childhood Institutions that were closed for sanitisation measures as a result of the Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease have reopened for classes.

The Commission says the schools are located in the Ministry of Education’s Regions One, Two, Three and Six.

It says up to Monday 146 of the 475 students who were infected have also returned to school.

The Early Childhood Commission says it has intensified its prevention and control strategies in the wake of the outbreak of the Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease affecting a number of the institutions across the island.

The Commission’s, Executive Director, Dr Joan Reid, says the Commission’s Development Officers have been tracking and monitoring the cases as well as meeting with practitioners and parents at the various institutions to share information on prevention and control measures.
