The 13-year-old son of a reputed gang leader was today remanded when he appeared in the Gun Court.

Justice Lorna Shelly Williams has ordered that the teen return to court next week Friday when a bail application is expected to be made.

Attorney at law, Peter Champagnie, who is representing the boy, says he could not apply for bail because he would need proper instructions as to living arrangements because the boy’s mother is also in police custody.

His father is serving a long prison term.

The teen's mother was arrested last night for allegedly breaching the Child Care and Protection Act in relation to the incident involving her son.

The police had reported that the minor, who attends a Corporate Area high school, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition yesterday.

The St. Andrew Central Police say about 8:30 yesterday morning the schoolboy’s knapsack was searched at his school and a  Ruger 9 millimetre pistol seized along with a magazine containing twelve 9 millimetre rounds of ammunition.
