A & E Unit to be expanded at Princess Margaret
Health Minister Horace Dalley yesterday signed a contract for the renovation and expansion of the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Morant Bay, St Thomas.
The contract, valued a little over $143 million, will be funded by the National Health Fund. It will see to the roof construction, ceiling, wall and floor finishes, plumbing, the installation of fire safety and lightning-protection mechanisms, and other areas that require renovation.
The health minister said the project, which is expected to last about a year, will benefit more than 300 patients who use the A&E Unit at the hospital each year.
Dalley said the ministry would continue its thrust across the island, as $460 million has been set aside in this year's budget for the improvement of secondary-care infrastructure.
