Undisciplined students force Half-Way Tree Transport Centre stakeholders to be summoned to high-level meeting

Director of Safety and Security in the Ministry of Education, Sergeant Coleridge Minto, says a high-level meeting is to be called with stakeholders to devise strategies to deal with the recurring problem of the bad and violent behaviour of students at the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre in St Andrew.

Sergeant Minto said the talks will involve officials from the Ministry of Education, the Police and the Transport Authority.

He says the issue is a major concern for the education ministry and the general public who use the facility.

He says students from nine Corporate Area high schools have been found to be the main trouble makers at the transportation centre.

However, he declined to name the schools.

Sergeant Minto says students are involved in violent confrontations, bullying, loitering and other activities.

The Director of Safety and Security says that the problem of student behaviour at the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre is worse on Friday afternoons.

Sergeant Minto described the atmosphere on Fridays as a war zone.

He says many students avoid the centre on those days out of fear of being attacked by fellow schoolmates who converge in and around the facility.

Sergeant Coleridge Minto says the education ministry is committed to putting an end to students’ bad behaviour at the transport centre.
