Clarendon: All set for smooth season

Commercial Services Manager at the Clarendon Parish Council, Georgina Venson, is promising shoppers and smooth and safe time in the major market districts in the parish this Christmas.

According to Venson, the council is working with entities including the National Works Agency and the police to ensure that everything is in place for the season.

Venson said the council is now accepting applications for vendor spaces on the two approved streets Muir Park Avenue and Sevens Road for the May Pen Town Centre.

"At this point we are just assigning spaces to the applicants for the shopping period which started on Monday, December 14 and run through Thursday, December 31," said Venson.

She added that the municipal police and the Jamaica Constabulary Force would be working to maintain a strong presence in all six market districts - Rocky Point, Chapelton, Frankfield, Kellits Spaulding and May Pen with increased numbers Wednesday and Thursday leading into Christmas on Friday.

"This is typically the busiest days during the Christmas period when Town Centre sees an influx of vendors and shoppers," said Venson.

As usual the May Pen town will be seeing traffic changes which were introduced last Tuesday.

On Christmas Eve, grand market night, the section of the town from Brooks Avenue to the Burger King outlet will be closed to vehicular traffic.
