The body of an elderly man was found in bushes near his home in Clarendon last night.
He has been identified as Lloyd Riley, a 76-year-old cattle farmer of Frankfield.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Riley was killed by praedial larcenists who attempted to steal his cattle. The body, which was found after 7 p.m., appeared to have several chop wounds.
It is unclear if the thieves took any of the animals.
The Frankfield police have since launched an investigation into the killing.
