Road deaths set to become second highest in a decade

The number of persons killed on the nation’s roadways this year is on pace to becoming the second highest in a decade.

With only four days remaining in 2015, the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) is reporting that 358 people have died in 335 crashes.

This is 32 more deaths and 38 more crashes than were recorded for the corresponding period last year.

According to the NRSC, 371 people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2006, making it the highest single year figure in the last 10 years.

A breakdown of this year’s statistics show that March and August had the highest number of road fatalities with 38 each, followed by October and April with 33 and 32, respectively.

The data also show that so far this month, road deaths are down by nine when compared to the same period last year.
