INDECOM said initial indications are that several civilians, as well as at least one off-duty policeman was involved in the alleged assault.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) says it will be providing oversight of the police investigation of the civilians involved in Saturday's alleged assault of a couple at a party at the National Stadium in St Andrew.

In a media release on Wednesday afternoon, INDECOM said initial indications are that several civilians, as well as at least one off-duty policeman was involved in the alleged assault.

INDECOM explained that its mandate does not allow for the investigation of any civilian, however, it said it will take all necessary steps to investigate the role of the identified policeman in the alleged altercation.

"Consequent on the above, a fulsome investigation will be conducted by the JCF (Jamaica Constabulary Force), based on the number of civilians involved, with supervision and oversight by INDECOM, in accordance with section 14 of the Independent Commission of Investigations Act. This approach allows for an enquiry into the roles of both civilian and law enforcement personnel," INDECOM said.

INDECOM is reminding members of the public that anyone who has a complaint, that an on-duty or off-duty officer, has assaulted him or her, can make a report to the commission. Additionally, video or other digital footage should be submitted to the Commission. This information should be shared via INDECOM's WhatsApp number (876)553-0000.

Popular TikToker TJ and his girlfriend, Moya, were allegedly assaulted by a policeman at dancer and social media influencer Dancing Rebel's birthday party.

Producer and artiste manager Romeich Major, co-promoter of the event, in a TikTok live apologised for the actions of the policeman who was reportedly hired by him.
