The police have now closed a section of the Bog Walk gorge in St Catherine where a trailer carrying liquid petroleum gas (LPG) overturned into the Rio Cobre this morning.
The police say the truck hit an embankment and overturned into the river about 2a.m. Reports are that the truck was proceeding towards Spanish Town and upon reaching the Flat Bridge, the driver failed to properly negotiate the corner. This resulted in the truck plunging into the river.
The driver was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment. He remains hospitalised in a stable condition.
The police have taken control of the area. Personnel from the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) and the Jamaica Fire Brigade are also on the scene.
