Members of Parliament today congratulated Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips on being named The Gleaner's Man of the Year.

The honour, which was bestowed on the finance minister yesterday, was brought to the attention of the House of Representatives at Tuesday's sitting by Leader of Government Business, Phillip Paulwell.

“When anything good is said of one of us it accords to all of us," Paulwell said.

The Leader of Government Business further said "we are in this vocation where our service is to the people of the country".

While no member of the opposition rose to speak, MPs were in one accord as they beat the desks to congratulate Phillips.

In response the finance minister thanked fellow MPs for acknowledging the award.

"It is not very often that we have good things said about us ...," Phillips said.
