Policeman in custody after Clarendon teacher dies from gunshot injuries

A policeman has been taken into custody by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) after a 35-year-old teacher succumbed to gunshot injuries in hospital this morning.

The dead teacher has been identified as Steven Dyer, who is employed to the York Town Primary School in Clarendon.

Reports are that the police had been initially called to the Bushy Park housing scheme in May Pen on reports that a policeman had been shot yesterday afternoon.

However, when they arrived they discovered the 35-year-old teacher suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the May Pen hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. He died this morning.

The deceased reportedly identified the policeman as his attacker before he died.

It is not clear what led to the shooting, however, reports are that the policeman, who has not been identified, trailed Dyer from Guinep Tree in May Pen to the housing scheme. The accused policeman reportedly bumped into the teacher's car and when he stopped and got out of his vehicle, the policeman opened fire. The lawman then fled the scene.
