Holness: any delay in completing the official count could have serious effects on Jamaica 's macroeconomic and financial market indicators.

Prime Minister-designate Andrew Holness has asked the Director of Elections Orrette  Fisher to move as quickly as possible to complete the official ballot count to certify the  majority of the new Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Government.

In a statement today, the Electoral Office of Jamaica said it has so far completed the official count in 40 of the 63 constituencies.

And according to the Commission, the official seat count is now:  the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) - 32; and the People's National Party (PNP) - 31.

The only seat change was recorded in St Mary South Eastern where the PNP's Dr Winston Green regained the constituency with a nine-vote majority over the JLP's Dr Norman Dunn.

The Electoral Commission will hold a press conference on Monday morning at 11 o'clock.

Holness says any delay in completing the official count could have  serious effects on Jamaica 's macroeconomic  and financial market indicators.

He is also seeking to assure that he has already moved to take charge of the Government and as soon as counts are finalised, will be sworn in.

The Prime Minister-designate has also already started to meet with various private sector interests telling them that there will be a smooth transition of administrations.
