Jamaica National wins global "Relay for Life" award

The American Cancer Society Global Spirit of Relay Awards has recognised the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) as an Honorary Team Winner for 2015.
"The Jamaica Cancer Society is very grateful to team Jamaica National for their continued support of Relay For Life for the past 14 years," declared executive director Yulit Gordon. "Over the years, this team has consistently demonstrated excellent mission delivery and authentic 'Team Spirit of Relay'.
"Their passion for raising funds for the fight against cancer was a major factor in JNBS winning the award," Gordon said. "They have continuously raised funds to assist the Jamaica Cancer Society in the expansion of its community outreach and strengthening of its public health education programmes. At Relay for Life 2015, Team JNBS raised over $1.4 million, which represented 42 per cent of the total funds received as team donation for the event."
The Global Spirit of Relay Awards was initiated in 2013 by the American Cancer Society to recognise teams, staff, and volunteers who make significant contributions to the overall success of their respective relay events.
Each partner in the 25 countries worldwide involved in Relay For Life identifies those who contribute significantly to the overall success of the event. For 2015, the Jamaica Cancer Society (JCS) submitted nominations for 10 teams.
The announcement came as the JCS plans the 2016 edition under the global theme 'Paint Your World Purple', a move to increase cancer awareness worldwide. The event was held at the Police Officer's Club, Hope Road, from June 11 to 12. General manager of JNBS, Earl Jarrett, who is also chairman of the JCS, graciously accepted the accolades and indicated that JNBS was actively promoting employee participation this year.
"Our corporate communications department has been generating significant interest under our internal theme 'Your Little Can Make a World of Difference, as we mobilise JN Group team members to show their true colours," he said.
