Portia: I'm hoping to speak on my financial records next week

Leader of the Opposition, Portia Simpson Miller, says she hopes to make a statement in Parliament next week regarding her financial records.

The People’s National Party issued a media release last week indicating that Simpson Miller would speak on the matter this week in the House of Representatives.

The party said the statement would speak specifically and decisively to integrity issues and Simpson Miller’s own report to the Integrity Commission.

However, this week’s sittings of the Lower House ended yesterday without the promised statement from the Opposition Leader.

Speaking with The Gleaner after yesterday’s sitting of the House, Simpson Miller said she's awaiting documents which she has requested from the Integrity Commission.

She says she will give an update in the House after receiving the documents.

Simpson Miller did not say whether the documents would be tabled in Parliament.

There have been calls for Simpson Miller to declare her assets especially since the Prime Minister Andrew Holness recently released his financial records to three media houses, including The Gleaner.

The records show that Holness had assets valued at $152 million and liabilities totalling $34.4 million at the end of March this year.
