NWA urges motorists to avoid Marcus Garvey Drive, open trenches pose safety risk
The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists to avoid Marcus Garvey Drive in St Andrew in light of the expected increased rainfall over the next 12 to 48 hours.
The local weather is expected to be impacted by a Tropical Wave expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Earl later today.
"The road is not being closed as it allows access to Newport East and Newport West, but the likelihood of flooding along sections of the corridor could pose risks to motorists," said Stephen Shaw, the communications manager at the NWA.
He also said there are a number of open trenches along the road and barriers could be dislodged during the inclement weather.
Motorists are therefore being advised to where possible, use suitable alternatives to Marcus Garvey Drive during this period.
