Dick to bless Black River Keswick Convention

The Reverend Dr Devon Dick, pastor of the Boulevard Baptist Church and president of the Jamaica Baptist Union, will be the guest preacher for this year's Black River Keswick Convention.

Dick is expected to deal with issues of faith, salvation, holiness, sacrificial life and mission.

The convention, which started in 1984, under the leadership of Elder Hugh Clacken of the Christian Brethren Assemblies, will be hosted at the Black River Holiness Christian from today until Friday.

Since 1999, the convention chairman has been the Reverend Godfrey Watson, president of the Independent Baptists and the executive has representatives from Anglican, Brethren, Methodist, United Church of Jamaica and Cayman denominations.

Through the years, the convention has received the full support of the Christian community in St Elizabeth.

This support is evidenced by the attendance and participation of various church choirs and the Combined Keswick choir. This year, the guest choir will be the Boulevard Baptist Church Choir, under the direction of Joseph McIntyre, as they perform Midnight Cry on the opening night

In 1875, The Keswick Convention was established in England under the theme 'All One in Christ Jesus'. In 1900, the first Keswick Convention in Jamaica was held in Mandeville, which gave birth 60 years later to one in Kingston, followed by others in Montego Bay, Black River and Ocho Rios.
