John Terry murder case set for October 10

The case against Richard Ewen, the man accused of the 2009 murder of British consul John Terry, will be mentioned in the St James Circuit Court on October 10, following his appearance in the St James Circuit Court on Friday.

Ewen, of a Bull Bay address in St Andrew, had his bail extended by presiding High Court justice Lorna Shelly-Williams.

The court was told that the case against Ewen has been on the mention list for further disclosure to be done since its addition to the Circuit Court's list. However, there was uncertainty as to what information is to be disclosed.

Additionally, Ewen's attorney, Trevor Ho-Lyn, told Justice Shelly-Williams that the case was to be overseen by a special prosecutor, arrangements for which have not been done.

"It has been required for the case to be assigned to a special prosecutor, but to date we have not had the special prosecutor here," Ho-Lyn said.

Justice Shelly-Williams subsequently set the matter for October 10.

Ewen was charged in October 2009 after Terry was found dead at his Mount Carey, St James, home on September 10 that year. Terry had reportedly died as a result of strangulation.

At the time of Terry's death, Ewen had been working as a security guard in Montego Bay.

There are 20 witnesses listed for the prosecution in the case against Ewen.
