Anti-Trump protests in several US states

Anti-Trump protesters last night descended on Trump Towers in both New York City and Chicago to express outrage over the businessman's victory at the polls on Tuesday.

Videos of the protest in New York City showed people burning American flags while others held placards and chanted anti-Trump slogans to decry Trump's ascendency to one of the most powerful offices in the world.

There were also protests in several other US states last night.

In Oregon many protestors were filmed burning US flags, tires and smashing windows to show their disapproval of the businessman's victory.

There were also protests in Seattle and the US state of Pennsylvania where hundreds of University of Pittsburgh students marched through the streets, with some in the crowd calling for unity.

Campus protests also erupted at the University of Texas, the University of Connecticut and the University of California campuses.

And the police say protesters in California damaged five businesses, broke windows and sprayed graffiti.

No arrests were made.

Meanwhile on Twitter, the hashtag 'Not My President' had been used nearly half a million times up to last night.

Trump is to meet with President Barack Obama today to discuss the smooth transition of the government.

His transition will occur over a 10 week period until his inauguration, which is scheduled for January next year.
