Director of Elections, Orrette Fisher, says all is in place for today’s by-election in the Greater Portmore North Division in the Portmore Municipal Corporation.

Accountant, Gary Nicholson, of the People’s National Party (PNP), is to challenge schoolteacher, Ann Lewis, of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), for the seat.

Fisher says 10,667 electors are eligible to cast a vote in the poll.

He says voting will take place at seven voting stations.

The seat became vacant following the death of the councillor, Michael Edwards.

A win for the JLP would break the deadlock in the St Catherine Municipal Corporation and place the JLP in the majority.

Both candidates have said they are confident of victory.
