Cabinet committee to consider preliminary rain damage estimates today
A Cabinet committee is expected today to consider preliminary estimates of damage to infrastructure submitted by the National Works Agency (NWA) following last week’s heavy rains.
The NWA’s manager of communication and customer services, Stephen Shaw, says the agency has been carrying out clearing and assessment exercise simultaneously.
He says a preliminary estimate will go to the infrastructure committee of the Cabinet today.
However, he says it’s a very rough estimate at this time.
Shaw notes that already the figure is set to increase as more damage has been discovered since the estimate was prepared on Friday.
He says a clearer idea of the cost of the damage is expected by the end of the week.
Last week, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Dr Horace Chang, said nine parishes had been impacted by the inclement weather with Clarendon being the worst affected.
