A nine-year-old student was this afternoon fatally struck by a bus while crossing the street near her home in Frome, Westmoreland.
The child had just got off the school bus around 5 p.m. when the accident happened.
It's reported that two motorists stopped their vehicles to allow her to cross the street when the bus driver overtook them and hit the child.
The bus driver then sought refuge in a nearby house and was later rescued by the police.
However, angry residents set the bus on fire.
They also complained that the police needlessly fired shots when they arrived on the scene.
