FLOW donates blood to children's hospital

Annually, the FLOW Foundation spearheads a blood drive to assist with the national shortage of the life-saving fluid. This year, however, following alerts from the Bustamante Hospital for Children, the entity has dedicated its 2017 effort to assisting children at the facility.

"Each year, we get a high level of support for our annual blood drive. We usually employ an aggressive recruitment strategy and internal educational campaign that help to sensitive our employees to the cause," shared Errol Miller, executive chairman of the FLOW Foundation. Miller also mentioned an unfortunate incident last year which saw a member of the FLOW team and her family involved in a serious car accident, which appears to have prompted an increase in support for the drive.

"Last year, the FLOW family pulled together to provide blood donations to assist our colleague and her family who required extensive surgery. The incident opened many eyes and I am happy to report that she has recovered and is now one of our internal blood donation ambassadors," Miller stated.

READY TO ASSIST

Stephen Price, FLOW's managing director, was one of those who rolled up his sleeves to donate to the cause. "Giving back is ingrained in our DNA, and at FLOW, we always stand ready to assist in any crisis. I am delighted to see the level of participation from the staff and members of the leadership team and, naturally, we will always give support for future initiatives like this which assist the communities we serve," he commented.

Dr Michelle-Ann Richards-Dawson, senior medical officer at the Bustamante Hospital for Children, visited the drive on Thursday and expressed delight at the effort.
