Three Caribbean countries still maintaining Brazil meat ban

Three Caribbean territories are among the markets still closed to Brazilian-produced pork and poultry in the wake of this year’s rotten meat scandal.
They are St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.
The update was given by vice-president of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein, Ricardo Santin, during yesterday’s opening ceremony for the four-day Chicken, Egg and Pork Festival in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
He says of the 46 countries that initially questioned Brazil over the investigation, only seven are currently closed to Brazilian exports.
The other countries still maintaining a ban are the Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Benin and Angola.
Santin says negotiations to return to these markets are expected to end favourably very soon.
Jamaica which imports 99 per cent of its corned beef from Brazil had imposed a ban on the canned process meat.
But this was lifted after a report from a technical team which visited the plants which supply the local market and found their operations consistent with international best practises.
