All hands on deck for SE St Mary seat

PNP supporters gather to hear their representatives presentations.

It would appear that the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) is not holding back on effort or expense to secure the South East St Mary constituency, judging from the turnout at a rally last night in Annotto Bat, St Mary.

In addition to party supporters bussed in, the number of PNP heavyweights and stalwarts who braved the inclement weather from all sections of the island, signalled the party’s awareness that it has an uphill task to retain this pivotal seat.

Mayor of Mandeville Donovan Mitchell and Central Manchester Member of Parliament Peter Bunting would have travelled some distance to show their support. So too would Noel Arscott who represents Clarendon South Western, along with councillor Uphel Purcell of the York Town division also in Clarendon.

However, for Luther Buchanan, travelling from Eastern Westmoreland and Dwayne Vaz who represents Central Westmoreland and Wykeham McNeill representing Westmoreland West the journey would likely have been more trying as a result of the rains.

Still, they, along with many other Comrades who travelled from the Corporate Area, St Thomas, Portland and St Ann was clear indication the party is taking no chances with this by-election.

The message is clear: it wants all hands on deck and swabbing!

Lisa Hanna Member of Parliament for South East St Ann put things in perspective during her endorsement of the party’s candidate Dr Shane Alexis.

“I believe in a young man because he has chosen a very difficult journey and those of you who are the workers and warriors of the PNP, the indoors, the outdoors, the cluster managers, the activists. Those of you who continuously wave the flag of the PNP, even when the times are not as pretty as we’d like them to be, you understand what I’m saying,” declared Hanna.
