Men locked up for nearly four years acquitted of murder

Two men have been acquitted of murder in a case that has been before the court for nine years.

Twenty-six-year-old Paulo Mills and 31-year-old Lorenzo Williams walked free from the Supreme Court in downtown Kingston yesterday after a seven-member jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty in their murder trial.

The two spent nearly four years in custody after they were arrested and charged in connection with the death of Derrick Lobban, who was shot 11 times along Ramsey Road, in St Andrew in 2007.

It’s reported that during the trial, which was closed to the public, an eyewitness testified that she saw Mills and Williams as they escaped through an open lot near the scene after the shooting.

However, her account of the incident and her ability to properly identify the men were challenged by their attorneys Peter Champagnie and Anthony Pearson.
