Clarendon College old boy establishes grant in honour of an outstanding teacher

Director of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Robert Nesta Morgan, has established a grant in honour of one of the teachers who most touched his life during his time at his alma mater, Clarendon College.

Morgan announced the Pansie Porteous grant during a presentation at the school's annual prize-giving ceremony, where he was the guest speaker, last Thursday.

The $50,000 grant will be given to a student who is in need of financial support and who the academic staff believe can improve their performance.

According to Morgan, the grant was named in honour of Porteous, who was a significant influence in his development as well as that of thousands of other students from Clarendon College and surrounding communities.

Porteous' life was dedicated to teaching and moulding lives. This she did for over 40 years, 33 of which were at Clarendon College alongside her husband, Stanhope, who was principal.

Her teaching skills were also shared with the International University of the Caribbean, where she pioneered that institution's development in Clarendon.
