Police want emergency meeting with Holness after failed wage talks

The Jamaica Police Federation is reportedly seeking an emergency meeting with Prime Minister Andrew Holness after wage talks with the Finance Ministry broke down on Wednesday.

The Federation reportedly met with Finance Ministry officials twice today, but felt no progress was made in the talks.

While there is no official word out of the meeting, it is understood that the Government maintained its offer of a six per cent wage increase, with four per cent being paid in year one and two per cent in year two.

This was rejected by the federation, which represents rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Last week cops went on a sick out to press their demand for increased wages.

Yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police Clifford Blake said about 1,200 of the approximately 12,000 members of the force did not show up for work during the sick out.

National Security Minister, Robert Montague, has appealed to cops not to take industrial action during the Christmas period because of displeasure with the wage talks.

Efforts this afternoon to contact head of the police federation Sergeant Raymond Wilson were futile.
