Residents of some communities that were ravaged following three days of intense torrential rainfall in East and West Portland have been provided with emergency relief supplies.

The relief effort was spearheaded by Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Daryl Vaz, who is the Member of Parliament for West Portland.

Vaz was accompanied by a team of engineers from the Jamaica Defense Force, which airlifted the supplies.

Food and toiletries were provided by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Portland Municipal Corporation.

Vaz met with Mayor of Port Antonio, Paul Thompson, East Portland MP, Dr Linvale Bloomfield, and a representative from the National Works Agency.

He described the situation facing residents as a catastrophe.
