Jamaica Defence Force soldier Craig Dubidath has been sentenced in the St Catherine Circuit Court to 15 years in prison for rape.

The 32-year-old private, who is of a Portmore, St Catherine address, was given the mandatory minimum sentence by Justice Carol Lawrence Beswick.

Dubidath was found guilty last year November.

During sentencing, the judge issued a certificate granting him the ability to file an appeal.

Dubidath was further remanded.

The JDF private was arrested and charged in 2013 following the rape of the complainant.

The court heard evidence that he offered her a ride home but instead of taking her home, took her to his house where he raped her.

The woman then filed a report with the police.
