Michael McLean facing more murder charges

Police investigators are preparing to file new murder charges against convicted killer Michael McLean, law enforcement sources have revealed.

The new charges, one source revealed, are related to the shooting deaths of two people at a gas station in Morant Bay, St Thomas in September last year while McLean was in lock-up awaiting trial for the 2006 murder of six people.

Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn confirmed that the police have submitted a case file to her office for a review.

Llewellyn revealed too, that the file is being reviewed by a senior prosecutor.

According to police reports, Katherina Brown, a 22-year-old cashier, and 49-year-old Christopher Higgins were shot dead by three men who got out of a car and opened fire at them.

Brown, who was inside a building at the gas station, was reportedly chased and shot multiple times.

This marks the third case of murder that has been linked to McLean in the twelve years he has been in custody for killing six members of a St Thomas family, including four children.

The businessman was charged in 2010 with the shooting death of police Constable Otis Barrett in St Catherine and the execution-style killing of two women, Evian Marsden and Michelle Fisher off Whitehall Avenue in St Andrew.

He was acquitted of those charges after prosecutors offered no evidence against him.
