The National Water Commission (NWC) says 25 delinquent customers, with outstanding balances totalling over $3 million, were prosecuted during the first quarter of this year.

According to the NWC, the legal action followed a number of recovery activities in Kingston, St Catherine and Clarendon.

The NWC said four of the 25 persons opted to pay off their arrears to avoid court action.

One woman, from Seaview Gardens, in Kingston, reportedly pled guilty and was ordered to pay 50 percent of her outstanding balance along with a fine of $50,000 or six months imprisonment.

The utility company said bench warrants were issued for three delinquent customers, all from Toll Gate, Clarendon, while the remaining 17 are waiting to hear their court dates.

It again urged customers facing challenges in paying their bills to visit the nearest NWC office and make suitable payment arrangements.
