Adventist pastor donates computers to alma mater
There were shouts of appreciation from the children of Kingsway Prep School (KWPS) at their morning devotion when it was revealed that the school's computer lab was outfitted with five new computers, courtesy of the school's alumnus, Pastor Jovan Whyte. The computers were part of a pledge made by Whyte to give part proceeds of his recent concert and album launch, held on May 2 at Stephanie Hall, Holy Childhood High School.
The computers, valued at $375,000, were handed to the school on Monday, May 21, during a ceremony attended by students, teachers and the Seventh-day Adventist Church administration in east Jamaica.
Milestone gift
"It is a pleasure to receive this gift from a past student of the school on this our 75th anniversary," said Dr Donna Brown, education director, east Jamaica Conference (EJC) of Seventh-day Adventists.
"We feel honoured that Pastor Whyte remembered the school that had helped him in his formative years as a student."
Whyte, who is the first Adventist pastor in EJC to have launched an album, was pleased with how things turned out at the concert and said he wanted to keep his promise to assist his alma mater.
"It is a great privilege for me to hand over these five computers which are brand new and which will go towards assisting the children in their computer programme at the school," Whyte said.
Vice-principal of KWPS, Delroy Turgot conveyed his gratitude to Pastor Whyte on behalf of the students, teachers and school administration. He said, "Not only will the computers serve the students, but they will serve us as teachers and administrators also."
Whyte, who is now making waves as a young recording artiste, is also an accomplished saxophonist. He is the radio host of 'Healthy and Happy' which is aired on NCU FM on Saturday evenings at 6:30 p.m.
He expressed thanks to the sponsors and the numerous gospel acts, including Jabez, Kevin Heath, Jodiann Pantry, Dennis Rushton and Godartiste, among others, who ministered alongside him and supported the cause.
