Almost $1M in counterfeit goods seized, store operator charged

St Andrew store operator 44-years-old Owen Jackson was yesterday arrested and charged with unlawful use of trademark after the police allegedly seized almost a million dollars of counterfeit goods at his business place in Constant Spring Plaza, St. Andrew.
Jackson was offered bail with surety in the sum of $300,000 and is to appear in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Monday, August 13.
Investigators from the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Branch conducted a search at the premises about 1:30 p.m. and they say 192 pairs of counterfeit sneakers were found.
According to the police, the goods were valued at more than $950,000.
On close inspection of these items, they were found to be subpar to the packaging and labelling standards of the official rights holders.
The police say they will continue to clamp down on the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods across the island.
