St Thomas cop in custody over alleged armed robbery of Portland businesswoman
A police constable attached to the St Thomas Police is in custody in connection with the armed robbery of a businesswoman and three others in Manchioneal, Portland on Monday.
According to police sources, about 4 a.m. the businesswoman closed her establishment located in the east Portland community of Fort in Manchioneal and she accompanied by the three persons drove to her house.
It is reported that on their arrival they were pounced upon by three armed men who robbed the businesswoman of approximately $700,000.
The four were reportedly physically assaulted and threatened by the alleged attackers who then escaped into nearby bushes.
An intense investigation led to the arrest of a man who was later identified as one of the alleged robbers.
During questioning by detectives from the Port Antonio Criminal Investigative Branch it was discovered that the man is a constable in the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
