One week after the first anniversary of an accident that has changed her life, Safoy Fearon is elated that she will soon be able to get back on her feet.

On July 28, 2017, the young St Ann woman, who was sheltering from the rain at a shop in Steer Town, was pinned inside the building by a truck that crashed into the structure.

She survived, but a section of her right leg was amputated.

As a result, Fearon was no longer able to work.

She would exhaust her resources on medical treatment and turned to the media with a desperate appeal for a prosthetic limb in April of this year.

Surgix Jamaica Limited heard her cry, and, the company says in a matter of weeks, Fearon will be fitted with a state-of-the-art prosthetic limb at a substantially reduced price.

“We are on a mission to make a difference in the lives of amputees in Jamaica, one patient at a time,” said Surgix Jamaica Limited Chief Executive Officer Winfield Boba.

Fearon is extremely grateful.

“Getting a prosthetic leg will mean I will be able to go back to work,” said Fearon, who was a chef at the Melia Braco Hotel before the accident.
