3 arrested after illegal gun, ammo seizures

Three men were arrested and charged in relation to the seizure of two firearms and nineteen rounds ammunition in separate incidents in St Catherine and St Andrew on Friday.

The first arrest occurred in the St Catherine North Police Division about 1:30 p.m., when members of the Spanish Town police responded to loud explosions in the Hartland area.

The team saw a Toyota Probox motor car and signalled the driver to stop. During a search of the driver and vehicle a knapsack was found and searched and six 9mm cartridges were found.

His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

The second seizure occurred about 10:00 p.m. in the St Catherine South Police Division where members of the Bridgeport police carried out a snap raid at a bar.

A man identified as 57-year-old Alton McKenzie, otherwise called ‘Tony’, a painter of Westmeade, Portmore in St Catherine was seen and searched.

A Glock 20 (10mm) pistol with a magazine loaded with eight 9mm rounds was taken from him.

He was arrested and charged for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and is scheduled to appear before the Gun Court on Tuesday, September 11.

The third seizure happened in the St Andrew South Police Division along Pelican Parade, Kingston 11 where a police team assigned to the Hunts Bay police conducted an operation at a party about 11:30 p.m.

One Taurus 9mm pistol with five live cartridges was seized by the police.

Thirty-two-year-old Otis Billet, a conductor of Woodpecker Avenue, Kingston 11 was taken into custody. His court date will be announced at a later.
