Moon Palace Resorts continues education outreach in Jamaica - $3m in scholarships awarded to 29 students

Moon Palace Jamaica, through its Palace Foundation, continues to invest in the education of Jamaican youth with the announcement of the 2018 scholarship recipients.

At a function held at the Gondola Restaurant at Moon Palace Jamaica in Ocho Rios, 29 full-time students received scholarships, totalling $3 million, to further their education.

Member of Parliament Shahine Robinson was among a group of specially invited guests, including family members and executives of Moon Palace Resort, to honour the Palace Foundation at its third annual scholarship awards ceremony.

"It is heartwarming to know that Moon Palace, as a part of corporate Jamaica, continues to, in a quiet way, make its contribution to the development of its people. As a nation, we thank Moon Palace. The changing global environment demands that we continue to educate our people if we are to remain relevant. Moon Palace is making a significant contribution to our efforts," Robinson said.

Clifton Reader, managing director of the resort said: "Moon Palace is a fairly new company in Jamaica but not new to Mexico. Corporate social responsibility has always been an integral part of the brand. One of our core values is the responsibility of developing and training our people. The purpose of our scholarship programme is to develop our community, and, by extension, our people."

Reader congratulated the recipients and urged them to think about how they would use the scholarship to develop themselves and, in turn, make a positive contribution to Jamaica.

Schools impacted include: University of the Commonwealth Caribbean; University of Technology, Jamaica; University of the West Indies; International University of the Caribbean, Moneague; Northern Caribbean University; School of Paramedic Studies; Caribbean Maritime Institute; and Sigma School of Nursing.
