Chang condemns murder of policewoman in domestic dispute
Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang has condemned the brutal death of woman district constable Melissa Edwards-White.
The police report that the policewoman was chopped and killed during a domestic dispute at her home in Duhaney Park, St Andrew about 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29.
Her husband 53-year-old Barrington Whyte, otherwise called ‘Barry’ and ‘Drop’, has since been listed by the police as a person of interest.
Chang described the murder as unfortunate and deeply saddening.
“The incidents of domestic violence and resultant fatal outcomes are troubling and reprehensible. Particularly, the murder of district constable who pledged to protect and serve the Jamaican people is an intolerable and cowardly act,” said the national security minister in a statement.
Chang further extended his outrage concerning the shooting death of Judith Miller-Warren in St James, who was also slain on Saturday.
It is alleged that gunmen opened fire on the vehicle in which Miller-Warren was travelling
She received several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at hospital.
“These regrettable acts of violence on our women, reflect a society in which a culture of violence has taken root. The work to restore value for the sanctity of life is the important responsibility of all social agents. As a people we must refuse to resort to violence as a way of resolving differences,” said Chang.
