Motorists urged to exercise caution when using Howard Cooke Bridge in St James

Motorists are being advised to exercise caution when using the Howard Cooke Bridge, located near the Dump-Up Beach in St James.

The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that the expansion joints along a section of the bridge have been compromised and are now in need of repair.

The NWA says that it will soon begin the works necessary to correct the problem and that this will necessitate the closure of the affected section of the roadway.

The NWA says that it is currently finalising the contractual arrangements for undertaking the project, as well as a traffic-management plan to mitigate any congestion that may arise from the closure.

Until repairs are effected, motorists who must use the bridge should take due care when doing so or use alternative routes where possible.
