The body of a 10-year-old boy was discovered in a pond on Holland Estate in Trelawny on Thursday.

He has been identified as Alcayde Palmer of Zion in Martha Brae. He was a grade five student at Granville Primary School.

An investigating officer attached to the Trelawny police told The Gleaner that Palmer was reported missing at 8 a.m. Thursday. A search team was dispatched to the area.

Palmer's body was discovered in the pond about 10 a.m.

Investigations will continue into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The child's father, Basil Palmer, described him as "a quiet boy who gives no trouble".

"Just night before I signed a permission slip for him to participate in some festival activities. I don't know what to say. I am just shocked," said Basil.
