A police-military team on Wednesday seized approximately 500 pounds of compressed ganja along the bank of the Rio Grande in Burlington, St Margaret's, Portland.

Police sources revealed that yesterday afternoon a boat was involved in a high-speed chase with a Jamaica Defence Force helicopter and the Marine police off the coast of St Margaret's Bay.

The chase ended near the Rio Grande bridge.

The weed was retrieved by the Marine police along with members of the Narcotic Division on a dry area along the river and later packed and transported to the Marine Police Station in Port Antonio.

No arrest was made in relation to the seizure.

In recent times, St Margaret's Bay has come under increased scrutiny by the police following reports by some residents about suspicious activities taking place in the evenings as well as strange men visiting the area.
