Bird Shack Jamaica pledges $5m to support Project STAR

Bird Shack Jamaica, a Montego Bay-based fried chicken franchise, has announced a commitment of J$5 million to Project STAR, a social and economic transformation initiative aimed at revitalising under-resourced and underserved communities across Jamaica.

In a statement made earlier this week, Wayne Cummings, chief executive officer of Bird Shack Jamaica, highlighted the company’s dedication to community development.

“We know that the need for community development and intervention is real and significant. As a company new to the market, with just two years in business, we want to be associated with positive people development and community development projects. Project STAR fits all those boxes for us,” Cummings stated.

Although the initial commitment of J$5 million is spread over five years, Cummings expressed openness to increasing this amount as the company grows.

“We believe that in the early stage, that number fits our abilities, but as we continue to expand, we are very open-minded to reconsidering the amount,” Cummings added.

Saffrey Brown, director of Project STAR, commended Bird Shack Jamaica for its support. “We are grateful to Bird Shack Jamaica for their commitment to Project STAR. Their contribution will significantly impact our efforts to create safer and more prosperous communities,” Brown said.

She further noted that Bird Shack Jamaica’s commitment to Project STAR underscores the importance of corporate social responsibility and highlights the potential for businesses to drive positive change in society.

“Support from corporate Jamaica is crucial to Project STAR achieving its goals and improving the lives of those in under-resourced communities across Jamaica,” said Brown.
