Update | Man charged over death of 86-year-old who was bludgeoned
The police have now charged a 38-year-old man in connection with the death of an 86-year-old man who was bludgeoned with a piece of board.
Charged with murder is Rodrick Minzie, a vendor of Pollyground district, Ewarton, St Catherine.
Minzie, who was said to be mentally ill, was charged yesterday.
A date is to be set for him to appear in court.
Killed was 86-year-old Vincent Lewin of Pollyground district.
The Linstead police reported that about 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, June 20, Lewin was walking along a roadway in the community when he was hit in his head with a piece of wood.
He was assisted to hospital and was admitted in serious condition.
The police say Minzie was later arrested when he turned up at a hospital seeking treatment for wounds.
The police were alerted and after preliminary enquiries, he was identified as a suspect in the incident.
The investigation was upgraded to murder when Lewin succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, June 22.
Minzie was charged on Wednesday, June 26.
