A St Catherine bus conductor who fled the Spanish Town Police Station while being processed on warrants for traffic offences was today fined $70,000 or 30 days' imprisonment.

Charged with escaping custody is 37-year-old Christopher Douglas of a Spanish Town address.

Douglas was also charged with resisting arrest but the offence was withdrawn today.

Attorney-at-law Stefan Mathews submitted that his client made a 'stupid' mistake, but didn't  waste the court's time and is not a candidate for a custodial sentence.

A fine was imposed by Senior Parish  Court  judge Desiree Alleyne.

The court heard that about 11:30 a.m. on June 28 Douglas was arrested by the police for outstanding warrants under the Road Traffic Act.

He was escorted to the Spanish  Town  Police Station.

While being processed he ran from the station leaving his slippers behind.

Douglas was spotted later that day and was arrested by the police.

He was subsequently charged.
