Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Floyd Green says there will be a one-day staging of the Denbigh Agricultural Industrial and Food Show following the passage of Hurricane Beryl which left $4.7 billion in damage to the sector.

Speaking at Wednesday's post-Cabinet press briefing, Green said while it is understood that several farmers would not be able to provide their usual support, it was agreed that their efforts were still to be celebrated.

Green said, as such, he has been in discussions with the Jamaica Agricultural Society and industry stakeholders and it was concluded that a one-day show that will focus on farmers should be put on.

The show was originally slated for August 1-3 in Clarendon.

“We'll focus on resilience and rebuilding. We'll do a combination of things like seminars about disaster preparedness, about disaster recovery and also offer various discounts [and] incentives that our farmers can benefit from,” said Green.

He said the ministry will also establish a window for farmers who are yet to receive assistance but have suffered loss and damage to give their information.

He said support will be channelled to them.
