​Success, leadership and innovation in the tourism industry, were recognised on Saturday, November 11 at the RJRGLEANER Hospitality Jamaica Awards, held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James.

The third staging of the prestigious awards show honoured local tourism leaders in a stellar display of glitz, glamour and entertainment.

Gordon 'Butch' Stewart, chairman and founder of Sandals Resorts International, received the evening's most coveted honour - the inaugural Pioneer Award - which was among 19 awards presented for the night.

"My journey is one where I listened to the people around me and we end up in the most phenomenal of positions," said the hotel mogul, who further took time to thank the Sandals team for continuing to uplift the brand. "It has been a splendid 36 years in this industry," Stewart added.

This year, the organisers put a spin on the equally impressive Hospitality Personality of the Year Award, by having the duo of Chukka Caribbean Adventures' CEO John Byles, and Marc Melville, the director of group revenue and new development, both copping the 2017 title.

Leading the pack in the other top honours was Royalton White Sands, which pulled out ahead to win both the Jamaica's Best Family Resort and Best All-Inclusive Under 300 Rooms awards.

"I am beyond pleased and a bit surprised because it was a competitive evening as we were on the platform with some of the best in the industry but we came out on top," said an ecstatic Kerry-Ann Quallo Casserly, Royalton's regional director for Jamaica and St Lucia.

"We are very pleased because it was a very adverse year but our team pulled through," she added.

The rapid growth and success of the RJRGLEANER Hospitality Jamaica Awards, which this year polled 12,000 votes from the public, has prompted the organisers to move the awards show to an annual event.
